Paul Chambers’s appeal was successful this morning in his appeal against conviction for sending a menacing tweet under section 127 of the Communications Act 2003, in the case known as the “Twitter joke trial” appeal. Yes, I agree that the CPS decision makers do seem to have been mistaken in pursuing this case and vindictive in opposing the subsequent appeals. The CPS seems to have disbursed public funds in pursuit of an unholy agenda and certainly not one in the public interest. It may be a weakness in the process that CPS decisions to prosecute can not be judicially reviewed.
